The company I work for has it’s own little school, where they teach locksmithing. Part of the class is riding around with us techs, & basically getting some hands-on experience.
I have had 1 person ride around with me, & it was awkward, & I actually told my dispatcher I didn’t feel comfortable doing it. BUT, Monday, I was asked if I could take a student around for a few days, so I agreed.
This experience has gone a lot better! The guy is in his 50’s, he’s really easy to get along with, is eager to learn, & we share the same views on quite a bit in life.
It’s really weird teaching someone that much older than me, but I think I’m doin alright. My mom always told me I was a good teacher when I was young. I used to try to teach my younger brothers & sisters what I’d learned in school. The guy must be happy with it, because he sure does talk me up to customers, telling them that I’m such a professional, & I’ll take good care of them, etc. Feels good. He has also told me that he would rather just ride around with me for a few weeks that drive with some of the other techs. That was nice.
So today, I taught him how to install a commercial lever handle, how to install a cylinder in a Detex panic bar, how to install some residential hardware, & showed him his first Jamba Juice drink! Oooh…I will corrupt him…oh yes I will…. Muhahahaha MUAA HA HA HA
